They decided to be honnest with Halethe and her cultist concerning Malek and they didn't hide anything. He sent them, not by choice, to retrieve the Heart of Modeus.
Halethe decided to help them, risking the loss of the Heart for nothing more than to make Malek stop attacking her Cult for it.
They each tried to touch the Heart and see what powers it granted them.

After careful planing and brainstorming on the best way to achieve this, they went back to Malek. Vaelin handed Malek the Mace, then as soon as they felt the contract lifted, they attacked.
Malek was neutralized by the cloud of slumber, then murdered by Urzol, while the rest of the camp and Imperial Guards were put to sleep, sent running by fear, and offered to surrender by Halethe's Cultists.
Urzol did feel something after murdering Malek, something about Horus being angry at him.
- He is under a Deific Curse: Nightmares every night will haunt him (Half P.P.E. Max, always Tired after a few days : Half Combat Bonus and #att)
*** The only way to remove that curse is to attend a Church of Light and Dark, to address Horus personally, and to properly ask for penance and forgiveness. Going throu Isis may work as well, but would require more than a simple/honest apology.
After all this, they accompanied the Cultists back to their cave, then left to return to Ghowell, trying to find Narkhgiit.
He found them the night they camped near the city. He had been trying to help them out of Malek's grip, but lost them when they left the first time, so he waited for them near Malek's camp until he was caught within the Cloud of Slumber cast by Elandir during the fight.
And so, all together, they left North-East, towards the Northern territories.
Along the way, using some scarcely used road, they encountered a Castle that looked abandoned. It was, in a way. Castle Ginlern. They entered, took a few things, then after hastily going through the North wing, they saw a Barn in the back, from a room balcony, and went to see. They found the sole Caretaker of the place, an Elf girl called Sjentz.
They left just as hastily, without accepting her invitation to stay.
Then they arrived in another small town, of about 800 people.
